Description
William S Haynes was a silversmith who started his flute company in 1888. This 1914 patent of his covered the drawing of tone-holes and corrected a flaw that had troubled flute-makers up until that time. The key was using the displaced material from the tone-hole to make the flange thus keeping the flange the same thickness as the tube.
