Feathers Up: Prussian

Part of my green flock, this elegantly beautiful porcelain songbird is sure to be treasured for years to come. Collect one or group several together! This sculptural bird sits upon a pedestal base. The bird measures 6 1/4"" on its longest side, 4" in height, with a depth of 1 3/8". The base measures 7 1/4" on its longest side, 3 1/2" in width and 1 1/2" in height.  My signature is on the underside of the bottom of the bird. I use a high-fired porcelain clay body, rendering this form very robust. The songbird and base are slab-constructed, hollow forms. The songbird features a textural, patterned surface created by applying several layers of hand-colored porcelain slip over hand-drawn designs in wax resist. It is further enhanced with underglazes to highlight parts of the design with spots of color. The bottom part of the bird and these highlights of underglaze color are covered with a clear gloss glaze. This piece has been fired multiple times in an electric kiln...all of the decoration is permanent.
