Fairy slipper orchid is so named because its flowers are much more delicate than those of the lady slipper orchids (Cypripedium sp.): about half their size, suitable for fairies! Do not pick these or any native orchids, as, for the most part, orchid reproduction is difficult in the wild.

Linda’s home is on Lopez Island, in the San Juan Islands of Washington State, but she is affiliated with UC Berkeley and UW Seattle herbaria, and conducts field research and teaches in the Siskiyou Mountains of Oregon and at other sites. Linda has over 25 years of illustration and college level teaching experience, and is principal illustrator of, for example, The Flora of Santa Cruz Island, The Jepson Manual: Vascular Plants of California, and has contributed many illustrations to the recently published Flora of the Pacific Northwest, 2nd Edition.
