"Enchanted Desert" by Snake Jagger

Snake Jagger is love struck with his native desert home -- and nowhere is his fascination more apparent than in his latest work entitled “Enchanted Desert” -- the image selected for the Festival’s commemorative poster. Born in Los Angeles in 1955, Jagger spent much of his time in the Palm Springs area where his father was employed by Frank Sinatra. The Southern California outdoor life-style and the glamour of the entertainment world helped shape the artist’s perspective. He managed to combine his dual goals of living close to the land and entertaining people in his ideal career as an artist – and his familiar pirate persona. He continues to capture joy in landscapes as well as other studies that border on the hyper-real. His paintings are known to be surrealistic because they present a world that seems to transcend ordinary reality. “Enchanted Desert,” is a terrestrial masterpiece. The original 36” x 48” acrylic on canvas creation depicts in perfect detail the desert’s numerous inhabitants. Rocks and streams, flora and fauna, birds and animals all appear within a backdrop of dunes and snow-capped mountains. Jagger creates color over color -- airbrushing clouds and sand -- then with meticulous technique he details each and every rock and pebble, cactus thorn and palm frond, giving it an intense presence. “This was an extremely long process, occasionally stressful, but a labor of love” stated Snake. “It is truly my favorite and best work yet.
