MEET THE ARTIST: Marilyn Peeters
Marilyn is a Comox Valley Artist whose art reflects on the environment with a passion for nature. Her and her husband moved to Black Creek, BC during the 80’s where she extended her knowledge in art working as a versatile artist throughout the Comox Valley. During that time, she volunteered with a theatre group where she gained extensive experience as a set designer and painter. With this experience, she was offered many mural jobs from the downtown Courtenay and Campbell River BC merchants. Soon after, she decided to complete her studies in Fine Art with North Island College and Emily Carr University where she completed her Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2009.
As a painter, she explores a sensorial perception of the BC landscapes through her painting process. The driving force in the creation of her work is elevated by her imagination, experiences, and spirituality. She is predominantly a landscape painter who likes to bring emotion from exaggerated colour and design and would like the viewer to experience their own personal experience while viewing her work. Painting with different colour combinations such as contrasting colour allows a luminosity to vibrate and it’s important to her that each piece has a strong sense of light. She likes to paint landscapes such as the forest, oceans, lakes, flowers, meadows, mountains and more.
Marilyn’s work has been exhibited on canvas in galleries, restaurants, pubs, airports, and hospitals in Courtenay, Comox, Victoria, Sooke, Sidney, Campbell River, Nanaimo, and Vancouver. Also, her work is in private collections overseas such as in Dubai, UAE, London, England, Germany and in the U.S. Her artist statement and work have been published with “Life as Human”, an online magazine in 2014 and she has accomplished four first place awards in group exhibitions. Marilyn a ACFA Signature status member with the Federation of Canadian Artist.
