Using traditional metal smithing tools, I fabricate, transform and manipulate metal, which includes sterling silver, copper, brass and German silver.
Using the metal as my pallet, I draw images and designs, which are then immersed in an etching solution.
The creative process continues as I shape and combine different metals. This includes riveting, soldering and stone setting with the use of many hand tools. The flexible shaft with it’s many tips gives the work a finished look.
The final step includes polishing on a high speed motor or applying a patina and verdigris finish to the metal. A protective coating is also applied at this time, giving it a lasting finish.
I remain the sole designer, but with much support and hands-on from my husband, son and daughter throughout the years, their involvement has made this all possible.
Realizing the endless possibilities, transforming metal into a piece of art will always remain an accomplishment that I hope continues to evolve with me.
