Description

E416. Riveted City Lights Lithograph Tin Rectangle & Glass Bead Earrings. For these earrings, I riveted together rectangles I cut from vintage lithograph tin of a urban night scene. I also used glass beads that picked up the colors in the tin. Lithography is a printing method from the 1790s. During the early & mid-20thcentury, lithography was used to produce brightly colored tin that was used in toys, TV trays, lunch boxes, candy containers, doll houses & other items. The earrings measure 1.5” from the base of the earrings wires, which are non-allergenic niobium.

Meet your seller

Pauline's Jewelry Box

My jewelry reflects my passion for antiquing & recycling. I love working with early plastics (e.g., bakelite), found objects (e.g., vintage pinback buttons, lithograph tin, old bottle tops, transit tokens, electrical resisters, etc.), broken vintage jewelry & charms, metal (especially copper), & gemstone beads to create something fun & interesting to wear. I use a variety of techniques in my work, including cold connections, texturing, soldering, riveting, wire-wrapping, enameling, & forming. I take jewelry classes at the Des Moines Art Center, & enjoy learning & experimenting with new techniques. Each piece of jewelry I design is unique, & comes with a story that describes the history of the materials used &/or the message/meaning of the work.
