MEET THE ARTIST: Jonathan Reggler
I am a Courtenay family physician. I immigrated with my family to Canada from England in 2003. Soon after arriving in the Valley I discovered sea kayaking and over the years I’ve spent many months exploring local and more remote parts of the coast. In 2008 I circumnavigated Vancouver Island with a friend and in 2010 and 2013 I completed a solo circumnavigation of Haida Gwaii. I have taken thousands of photographs and these are generally the source material for my paintings.
I draw inspiration from the Impressionists and the Group of Seven but I believe an artist's unique style develops naturally in response to the subjects they paint and an open-minded reaction to the painting of others whose work they admire.
