4 ounces of Dark Gray Shetland Wool Roving. Professionally washed and carded by Alford Family Farms and Spinnery, with great care taken to ensure a wonderful end product. The wool is skirted, 24 hour cold soaked, pre-washed followed by opening, tumbling, hand picking of vegetable matter, hot soaked, two washes, two rinses and carding. The scouring process allows for a gentle moving of water through the wool to avoid agitation. Temperature controls prevent shock to the fleece as it soaks. No harsh chemicals are used in the cleaning of the fleece. A Stonehedge picker and carder process the washed fleece. This GORGEOUS roving is from Shetland fleece in the Avon Grove School flock in PA. The roving is perfect for spinning and knitting, or felting into warm garments! The carded fiber is super easy to spin on a spinning wheel or drop spindle. The color is a rich dark grey. This is Shetland so make sure you read about it before ordering. We have been very careful not to separate the undercoat from the outer coat which is sometimes a problem when processing double coated animals.
Note. This roving is being discounted because it still has more straw and trash in it than I like when roving leaves our mill. l do not believe that it is enough to cause problems for most spinners or felters. For a really fast spinner or person that demands roving completely free of straw, this is not for you. The straw is going to slow you down in the case of the fast spinner. Our roving is a bargain at $11, at $10 it is a steal.
