Description

A dung beetle rolls a ball of dung across the milky way. Actually, dung beetles are quite fascinating little creatures. It has recently been discovered that some species of dung beetles navigate by the milky way, while others use the sun's position to guide their path. Many cultures' creation myths feature dung beetles. The way they create their balls of clay is evocative of the way the earth might have been made. Meet your seller

Melissa West, Printmaker

Printmaking is my passion. I love the challenge of creating an image using linoleum blocks: how to convey shape, volume, texture, and movement using only the binary of black and white. I also love the physical process of making prints. Carving a block reminds me of the rhythm of walking, and creates a meditative mood. Printing a block by hand includes the excitement of the first reveal -- even if I've been carving a block for weeks, the final print is still a surprise. I hope you will find my artwork to be challenging, surprising, thought-provoking, and fun. Thank you for visiting!
