Betsy Stecker of Big Mitten Linocuts is a linoprint artist and textile blockprinter from Royal Oak, Michigan. Original sketches are drawn onto linoleum, carved in relief, inked, and printed onto paper, cotton cloth, or linen...all by hand. As a textile blockprinter she creates tea towels, pillows, market totes, zipper clutches, all blockprinted by hand with her art. The art is inspired by frequent travels to Presque Isle, a pristine and natural place in northern Michigan. While trees, flowers, and wildlife take center stage, the artist also is fond of midcentury art, evidenced by pattern motifs that appear in some of her prints.
