The patent is for a carbon fiber cello. The inventor Luis Leguia is a cellist from the Boston Symphony. The carbon fiber gives strength and durability to the instrument that the traditional instrument does not have. Yo-yo Ma played one at the Washington Mall for 10 days in 100-degree heat during a Smithsonian Folklife Festival in 2003. Peter Sachon played his carbon fiber cello in the Lincoln Center Theater production of South Pacific.
