Handmade Made of 24K gold, sterling silver Pendant height: 3 1/4 inches Pendant width: 1 5/8 inches This is one piece from my newest collection called “Galaxy” in which oxidized sterling silver and 24k gold come together in beautiful designs reminiscent of a starry night. Using the ancient Korean technique of keum-bo, I have fused 24k gold to the surface of sterling silver and then oxidized certain areas for contrast. The contrast of the rich 24k gold color against the bright silver as well as the boldly oxidized portions of the design is lovely. I have used a very deep dark greyish black patina for oxidation. The combination of silver, gold and this rich, very deep dark grey is gorgeous! This necklace has had many different techniques and materials come together in its design and creation! The textures and dimension evident in the sterling silver background and the wires with their balled ends is achieved with a process called fusing. Fusing is basically heating the sterling silver rectangle I have cut out by hand, many times until it has the lovely texture I am looking for. With each repeated heating the texture builds on top of itself. The key is knowing when to remove the flame as you literally pull it away when the silver turns a hot liquid-looking and glowing red...i.e. just before it melts into a big puddle! It takes practice, patience and a lot of time, but the end result is gorgeous and provides the perfect backdrop for the addition of the 24K gold. In this pair I have cut out and then soldered on several shapes, to represent the moon, stars, planets, the sun....and the gold was then applied to these shapes. The pop of bright 24 k gold on these domed and soldered on shapes really brings them to light The end result is a pendant that is reminiscent of a star-studded moon-lit evening sky! It is certainly a stunning pendant and commands attention! The pendant as photographed hangs from a lovely multi-cable neck wire. The pendant itself measures 1 5/8" wide and 3 3/8" top to bottom to include its curvature. It has a slight curve to it and as such it measure 3 1/4" in length top to bottom lying on a flat surface. In the sterling silver multi-cable neck wire, 15 strands of sterling silver compliment the bright silver tones in the pendant beautifully. This features a secure interlocking clasp. This is available in either a 16 inch or 18 inch length. It passes through a "hidden bail" on the back of the pendant. I consider this design to be a signature piece of mine and have signed it on the back. Please choose whether or not you would like the multi-cable neck wire with your purchase, and if so, what length. To be honest with you, $50 is an amazing price for this as it is just a few dollars more than what I pay for it. I pass this along as a courtesy to my customers purchasing one of my pendants. You will LOVE this neck wire as it works with this design beautifully and can be easily removed and used with other pendants! You may also choose to use a chain necklace of your own with this pendant for different lengths and looks! Notice the coordinating earrings! These can be found in a separate listing.
