Calavera - Day of the Dead Skull Mask

On Día de Muertos, the Mexican day of dead, the departed souls are welcomed back to the land of the living to enjoy a day of lively celebration with those who love and remember them. It is a family reunion that reaches beyond the grave. On this day, candles are lit and graves are tended, altars are lavished with marigold flowers, personal gifts and mementos. There are graveside picnics where and the living feast alongside the dead, and the festivities continue into the candle-lit night with music and parades in their honor. On this day, the streets are ruled by the Calacas, skeleton tricksters and merry-makers, undead kings and queens, brought to life through costume and puppetry, their skull faces bursting with colorful flower-petal mandalas. This work of art is inspired by the traditional calaca masks, combining the motifs of life and death, celebration and dread. Its features are adorned with filigree vines and flowers, and its eyes are marigold colored jewels which shine like candlelight. The Stones are golden sapphires. Can be customized upon request.
