Bright Eyed, Bushy Tailed

This chipper little red squirrel is alert and ready to start it's day! This scratchboard artwork measures 7" x 5" and is enhanced with watercolor and inks. Scratchboard is a relatively unknown medium, although it has been around since the 19th century. A kaolin clay tablet is coated with black India ink, and the artist etches into it with a variety of sharp tools to reveal their design. The revealed clay etching can be left white or further tinted with colored inks or watercolor paints. This piece includes a solid wood floater frame in a black satin finish with sawtooth hanger. Artwork is signed on the front with the artist's pen name; on the reverse, it is titled and signed with the artist's full name. Artwork has been varnished with a matte finish, and is best displayed without glazing/glass.
