Description
The delicate beauty and gracefulness of the Black Necked Stilt is always a source of pleasure for me to observe. These gentle birds are easily spotted in shallow freshwater and saltwater areas because of their extremely long pink legs and long needle-like bill.
This etching is hand-made on 5 large copper plates, each plate containing different colors. In addition to the Rives BFK rag paper used for the etching, the inks and paints employed to create the etching are of the highest quality. To have all the plates register (the images lining up when hand printing) is a technical task of engineering proficiency. Two weeks after the ink dries, another 2-3 hours of hand-coloring is required to finish the piece. Because of all the hand work involved, no two pieces are exactly the same.
