This piece has sold, but for comparison sake, I've left it on the roster for now. Along with my landscape work, I have added abstract acrylic paintings as well. Really, the process and techniques are the same. I build up the work with many thin layers of paint, however I arrange the shapes and colors and values in a way that it is a painting without trying to create recognizable realism. I let the painting, the shapes and colors evolve and follow what seems to be developing on its own.
I've been painting since childhood. Growing up in the Southwest, I always admired the beauty and mystery of the thunder clouds that would move in across the plains. It is natural that I became a landscape painter. It is also natural as an artist of many years, to explore further into contemporary painting. I have made these explorations, not at the expense of my landscapes, but in addition to them.
