B310. Iowa Charm Bracelet. I made this charm bracelet using vintage Cracker Jack/gumball & other charms that I thought represented Iowa. Charms include an Iowa charm, an ear of corn (Iowa produces more corn than any other state), a tractor, a bicycle (for RAGRAI), 3 pigs (Iowa is the top pork producing state, there are almost 7 times as many pigs in Iowa as people), & 2 gemstones beads native to Iowa (moss agate & chalcedony). The chain is silvertone cable & measures 8.25” long, but can be worn shorter.

My jewelry reflects my passion for antiquing & recycling. I love working with early plastics (e.g., bakelite), found objects (e.g., vintage pinback buttons, lithograph tin, old bottle tops, transit tokens, electrical resisters, etc.), broken vintage jewelry & charms, metal (especially copper), & gemstone beads to create something fun & interesting to wear. I use a variety of techniques in my work, including cold connections, texturing, soldering, riveting, wire-wrapping, enameling, & forming. I take jewelry classes at the Des Moines Art Center, & enjoy learning & experimenting with new techniques. Each piece of jewelry I design is unique, & comes with a story that describes the history of the materials used &/or the message/meaning of the work.
