Autumn's Peak at Elephant Rocks is inspired by a autumn trip to Elephant Rocks State Park in the Arcadia Valley. It is one of my very favorites destinations in the Missouri Ozarks. The beautiful pink granite out cropping’s in the middle a hardwood forest makes for wonderful photography and paintings. I’m especially attracted to the big elephant sized boulder and how they lean against each other. It’s like God was playing marbles then leaving them where they fell. I keep going back, time and again, to meditate, take photographs and plan new paintings. Elephant Rocks is south of St Louis, Missouri about an hour and a half.

For three decades, Garry McMichael has been traveling the back roads of Middle America, especially the Ozarks, capturing its beauty with the camera, charcoals, pastels and paint. Garry is constantly searching for those fleeting moments when the landscape, the atmospheric conditions and the ever-changing light come together in a flash of visual inspiration.
Whether you are inspired by the ebb and flow of the Mississippi River, a quiet walk through the rugged Ozark Mountains or watching a summer thunderstorm roll across the prairie, you will appreciate the art of Garry McMichael.
