"Audrey with Flowers at Seven"

I love using my daughter for a model. I've painted her about 10 or 11 times now, and most have been award winners. This portrait was a sequel of sorts to the first painting I ever did for competition, "Audrey with Flowers" from years earlier. In this one she's five years older, in a different house, with a different table, different vase of flowers and different pose, but other than that, it was very similar ;) My personal challenge with this composition was to see if I could keep the main subject smack dab in the middle of the painting and still make it work. I also liked the confident attitude of Audrey staring right at the viewer. A friend pointed out the tiny heart her hands are making under her chin. Sweet! Awards: The Art Spirit Foundation Diane B.
