The Levy's sit on the back staircase of their hundred-year-old New Orleans home. They were both born and raised in this wild city, and have accomplished great things in their lifetimes. In the 1960s, Mr. Levy was working as a lawyer and helped bring a case to the Supreme Court from the State of Louisiana. The Supreme Court’s decision gave legal rights to illegitimate children (those born out of wedlock), who were previously not protected by the law. Many of these children were African American, and the case contributed to the Civil Rights Movement of the time.
Mrs. Levy started the first audio tour of the historic French Quarter. It was called Toursettes, and catered largely to wives who accompanied their husbands to business conferences in New Orleans. It was a huge success.
The Levy’s have witnessed and contributed to many significant social changes in the historical landscape of New Orleans. Their story gives one faith that the youth of today will be able to make the world a better place in the decades to come.
