A Good Place to Begin
At every stage of our lives, we are on some sort of a journey. Even if it feels as if we are standing still or required to stay home more than usual, there seem to be changes brewing on some level. This piece was conceived when I printed the bright yellow paper that lies in the middle of the composition. It contained subtle but rich variations of colour and texture that felt like a space I would like to linger in. The foreground became layered with the rough and tumble of challenges that we all need to overcome at times. The background became a subtle layering full of promise, somewhat obscured but hopeful, which is the way I feel about what's on my horizon these days.
This paper collage piece is made from my own handprinted papers, layers of texture and colour create an impressionistic landscape.

About Barbara Buntin
I make paper collage art pieces in my studio in Cobourg ON, drawing inspiration from multiple sources. Just as collage is an assemblage of materials to form a unique composition, the layered influences on my creative life bring me to this point in my art making.
Working with my hand printed paper, I cut and move shapes around the piece until the elements create a pathway for the eye, a place for the imagination to dwell. The shapes, colours and movement in the materials seem animated while I construct the scene, resulting in compositions that echo human energy and interactions. Some compositions remain in abstract form, hinting at unseen forces in transition; while the landscape images reflect the memory and atmosphere of place rather than a descriptive representation.
I enjoy the opportunity to exhibit my work in Galleries and Art Shows both locally and in Toronto as well as welcoming visitors to my studio by appointment. The conversations that arise with the viewer are a sustaining part of the process of making art.
