If you are a true math nerd, you know what Yellow Pigs' Day is. For those of you who do not happen to adore math, Yellow Pigs; Day is a yearly holiday that celebrates the number 17. It is celebrated on August 17th.
This sculpt celebrates the mythical Yellow Pig. The number 17 and the prime numbers that make it up are enshrined in various ways on the sculpt; he has 17 teeth and 17 warts. His toes add up to 17 and are placed strategically so that each limb has 2, 3, 5 and 7 toes respectively. All primes. And don't get me started on his abacus...
Created from midrange stoneware clay, fired for a total of 17 hours in a kiln, and decorated with rich yellow glaze. Abacus created by hand and strung with 17 rows of beads. Each row has 7 beads, split into two and five beads each, as per the design of a traditional abacus.
