Triphala means "3 fruits" in Sanskrit because that's what this tea is: the balanced blend of 3 fruits. An ancient ayurvedic remedy for digestion, it's often described as a mild laxative. What's more, this formula is also a classical herbal rasayana, which is the Sanskrit word for rejuvenation. Steep for 10 minutes or until the water has cooled down enough to drink. I love this tea. It's an acquired taste because it has 5 of the 6 tastes, several of which we don't include in our daily diet. It's sour, sweet, pungent, bitter and astringent at the same time. The only taste that's missing is salty. Ayurveda doesn't count calories, it counts tastes. A balanced diet means the existence of all 6 tastes in your meals. Well, this takes care of 5 of them. If you’re still getting used to the taste, you may add a hint of honey. Honey at 104 Fahrenheit, or 40 Celsius is believed to create “ama” in the body. “Ama” is the Sanskrit word for undigested or improperly digested food particles.
