This is normally met with skepticism and disbelievers say that it is the volcanic fumes that are making them hallucinate. Some artists have explored this idea and created paintings of the regions where the rocks were said to move. In every case, the area is definitely different from what the artist creates but is also explained away as natural volcanic activity or the fact that the artist is not that skilled.
