I came to create art relatively late in life, after an advertising and communications career. My work? Think sugar coated bundles of detail and slight oddness combined to make unpainted paintings that are arresting and uncanny. And not something you see every day. A friend taught me felting basics and I began creating wearables. I wondered if I could make a portrait, I hadn't seen one made of fiber, and I had not created one in any medium. I kept at it until the likenesses were recognizable (although some faces existed only in my imagination). I use fiber and a felting needle. It's like tattooing, but with wool. There is no paint applied. I'm happy to speak to you about custom/commission work of humans or animals. Since I began making fiber paintings in 2017, I have been honored to receive the first place award in Florida CraftArt's 2021 Members' Show in St. Petersburg and Fearless Fiber at Carrollwood Cultural Center, Tampa, as well as three awards of distinction. I served as juror for Felt: Fiber Transformed 2020, Fiber Art Network, and have had my work featured in Outsider Art Magazine and on the Summer 2019 cover of Fiber Art Now. My work has been shown in Red Truck Gallery, New Orleans; MIZE Gallery St. Petersburg, FL; Hunterdon Art Museum, Clinton NJ; Brenda McMahon Gallery, Gulfport, FL; Florida CraftArt, St. Petersburg, FL; Art Center Sarasota and juried fine art shows including the American Craft Council show in Atlanta. I've spent most of my life in Virginia and now call Gulfport, Florida home.
