I design and build zero-waste, ethically made art to wear garments with an equal emphasis on design, individuality and utility. I source fabrics from my personal vintage collection and design house ends, past season high quality fabrics that are discarded and deemed unusable. Crafting beauty and utility from cast-off materials results in limited quantities and one of a kind garments. The challenge of designing within these restraints really pushes the creative process and supports my personal philosophy of sustainable and ethical practices. At a time when fast fashion, wasteful consumption and short-term trends are the norm, I am a proponent of Slow Fashion, a sustainable movement that values well-made garments with a timeless design. These environmentally conscious principles guide my production, where the end result is an intentional, utilitarian and sophisticated garment with a minimal and modern aesthetic. I am a self-taught garment maker who built skills through many failures and triumphs. I received a solid foundation of the basics by my paternal grandmother when I was eight years old. Art school then introduced me to language, history, creative problem solving, design aesthetics and materials. I continue to explore and question the most intimate part of our environment, our clothing, and how it carries the imprint of our character.
