Welcome!
The body of work I am featuring illustrates my passion for figurative abstraction as well as an ongoing love of landscape. My process begins with layering mixed media backgrounds composed of prepared and found papers, as well as recycled artwork. I then choose an image from either my life drawing sketches or personal photos to draw and paint into the active, textured ground. By integrating figures with their backgrounds, I am speaking to our interconnectedness and shared responsibilities: we are our contexts.
My overall process involves moving from the chaos of the initial collage to calm imagery, resulting in tranquil, contemplative art.
Over the weekend of June 1 -2, 2024, my work will be available for purchase at the Riverdale ArtWalk in Jimmie Simpson Park, 872 Queen St East, Toronto. If you are not able to join in person and you see something here that interests you, please reach our to me directly: friedmansusan@rogers.com
