My name is Alex Croft and I make hand tufted art. Before becoming a full time artist I spent 15 years as a hairstylist and eventually a small business owner in Oklahoma City and Chicago. My husband, 3 cats, and I came to Kansas City to be closer to family and for a much needed change of pace. The skills I learned as a stylist have definitely translated into my art. Every piece I create utilizes my knowledge in color theory, precision cutting, attention to detail and ability to bring a customer’s vision and ideas to life. My inspiration varies widely from my favorite cartoons to abstract design to millennial nostalgia and beyond. In addition to premade rugs I also accept commissions for custom rugs. I absolutely love working with someone to come up with a design that is unique to them and their interests. Some recent commissions have included a 5’ sci-fi portal, a large caricature of a cute couple, and my take on a vintage sports logo. I feel very fortunate to love what I do and work with and in such a great city!
