The Hessel School House Corporation supports the Avery Arts & Nature Learning Center as the centerpiece of the Les Cheneaux Islands community for the purpose of ensuring the continued vitality and prosperity of the area and its residents. Hessel School House was constructed in 1937 and provided education for K-5 until 1958. It was reopened as a non-profit center in 2016: a venue for weddings, reunions, educational programs, art exhibits, etc. HSH is the location of the annual Aldo Leopold Festival.
