My works explore the seemingly infinite variety of shapes and forms that allow the natural beauty of the wood to be reflected aesthetically in the vessels I create. With 30 years’ experience in woodturning and a lifetime of working with wood (my father was a carpenter and boat builder) I discovered, that “the natural beauty of the wood” represented only one component of creative expression. The works I create are one-of-a-kind, hollow-formed classic vessels with a contemporary touch to emphasize form and balance. All works are created utilizing a lathe and a variety of specialty hand tools. Some works include the process of specialized surface texturing, tinting, and bleaching to further enhance the beauty of the wood. The surface finish is of a high-quality catalyzed lacquer or an automotive clearcoat with built-in UV inhibitor.
