My form of communicating with the world is through the expression of art. Art has become my voice and universal language. Art has allowed me to respond and communicate through imagery what often I could not express physically or verbally. I enjoy freely expressing myself through the intricate details and interweave of the message into the complex compositions of each subject that inspires me.
In my work, I begin with a stimulus. It’s usually in the form of a unique composition, striking color combinations, a mood or a statement that needs to be conveyed to others. After studying each subject and creating rough draft and multiple vignettes, I decide on a final composition that is suitable to the story that I want to tell through art. Color balance and light projection both play an intricate role in all of my paintings.
Pastels, watercolors, fiber, acrylic mediums allow me to create captivating combinations and shift between high contrasts and subtle charms that I can hide into the shadows of my artwork. I often combine hyper-realism with vibrant color and abstract forms to put a modern twist on the traditional classic images. When I produce photo-realistic and hyper- realistic images; it allows me to shed the complexity and struggles of life with each applied layer of color and detail. I strive to find a unique perspective in common and ordinary objects and structures. With each layer of extraordinary detail and color, my intent is to capture the viewer’s curiosity, imagination, spark a dialogue, and unveil a commonality between people and therefore produce a paradigm shift towards the positive creativity and life within us all. Each painting is a visual documentation of my life, my heritage and life challenges as a female, multicultural artist.
